Charity Ego Nwokocha
Ms. Nwakaego Charity Nwokocha is the Founder and Chief Executive of Pinnacle Water Expo Centre.
She served meritoriously for well over thirty years in the Transport Ministry of the Federal Civil Service, working majorly in the areas of Administration, Personnel Management and Public Communications.
Madam Ego as she is popularly called personifies humility, excellence and integrity throughout her long years as a career administrator and technocrat in the Maritime Industry.
Nwokocha had her secondary school education at Girls High School, Umunya in Anambra State. Thereafter, she gained admission to study History at the country’s premier University of Ibadan. Upon her graduation with Honours in 1979, she served out her one year National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) primary assignment at Ibadan Grammar School, Oyo State.
Blessed with an “I-can-do” spirit, Ego moved to Lagos where she secured her first full-time job as Tutor at Methodist Boys High School. After a four year stint, she was engaged as a senior Teacher and Head – Department of Arts at Saka Tinubu Memorial High School, also in Lagos.
Her illustrious career in the maritime industry began in 1988 when she joined Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) as a Senior Public Relations Officer at the Authority’s Head-office.
She was Head of the PR Department at the nation’s premier and biggest seaport, Apapa Ports Complex (1990-1996), Head of the PR Department at the Tin Can Island Port (1996-1997), before transferring her service to the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) in June 1997 as an Assistant Director and Head of the Council’s Public Relations Unit.
She rose to become a Deputy Director at the Nigeria Shippers Council and would later be deployed from public relations to the field as Head of the Council’s Lagos Operations before she transferred her service to the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in September 2006.
At NIMASA, she has served as Deputy Director, Public Relations twice (Sep 2006 – May 2007/ 2009 – Dec 2010); Deputy Director, Planning, Research and Data Management Services twice (May 2007 – Jul 2009/Dec 2010 – Nov 2011); and as Deputy Director, Human Resources. She served as Deputy Director, Maritime Labour Services Department, before her retirement.
Nwokocha’s track record of excellence has come through hard-work and acquiring the right skills. She is one of the few civil servants to have transverse the three Grade A Agencies in the maritime industry. She holds a Masters Degree in Transport Planning and Management (Lagos State University), a Masters Degree in Public Management (Singapore Port Institute) and several Certificates in specialized training such as Anatomy of Shipping (Lloyds Academy); Senior Women Managers Course: Public Affairs and Protocol Management.
Professionally, she is a Fellow – Chartered Institute of Shipping, Member – Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, Member – Nigeria Institute of Management, Chairperson – Publicity Committee, Women in Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) and Executive Member of WISTA.
Since her retirement, she has been have involved in public causes and charities; in addition to social work and mentoring of young school leavers.
She is well travelled and runs several business ventures covering general merchandising and manufacturing of quality drinks and mineral water products.
Her hobbies include reading, nature watch and travelling.
